FTC SIG Annual Meeting at ARLIS/NA Conference

For those planning to attend ARLIS/NA’s 2013 Conference in April…

The FTC SIG’s annual meeting is scheduled for Friday, April 26, 4:45-5:45 p.m.

If there is anything you feel needs to be discussed or that you would like to add to the agenda, please let me know!  I plan to post our agenda by the end of March.

The conference committee is working very hard behind the scenes to develop exciting presentations and cultural tours.  The conference SIG meetings are a marvelous opportunity for professional development and networking.  Finally, the Pasadena/LA venue offers so much in terms of culture, dining and shopping.  There are many reasons to make every effort to attend this particular conference!  I hope to see many of you there!!!

Welcome new FTC SIG members!

Greetings FTC SIG’ers!

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to our new FTC SIG members and a happy new year to all!

I’ve finally caught up on sending blog invitations to our new members.  I’ve seen lots of new names coming in, and am delighted we’re generating so much interest. I strongly encourage new members to scan our recent blog posts not only to get to know us better, but also for learning about a particularly unique opportunity.  (Hint:  It will pay off!!!  …  And thanks, Berg! ;-))

For those of you in North America who haven’t renewed your ARLIS/NA membership yet, please do so as soon as possible.  At the same time, you’ll be given the option to join our SIG, or to continue membership.  Naturally, you can always contact me directly if you forget to do so, or if you choose to join/renew at a later date.  Remember, there is no additional cost to join our SIG or subscribe to our blog.

Among our valued FTC SIG subscribers are international FTC librarians.  Please know that you are as welcome as ever!  The history of costume and textiles, and the world of fashion, is nothing if not international.  Your presence in our group provides an international perspective we so fervently need and desire!  If you know other international FTC librarians, please do encourage them to consider joining us, too!

For all subscribers, PLEASE be active members by posting to our blog!  Your questions, ideas, suggestions, resource recommendations, and FDC-related exhibition / museum / gallery notices are greatly appreciated.

For those who wish to play a more active role in our group, please contact me and share your ideas, or volunteer to help with our blog or our Fashion Librarians’ Resource Guide.

Do plan to join our FTC SIG meeting at the ARLIS/NA Annual Conference in April.  Details are not out yet, but I understand that there will be presentations of FTC interest, and the conference website already promises a “shopping adventure in the Textile District, (and) a tour of the library and exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.”  Naturally, we’ll set up at least one dinner for our SIG during the conference as well; it will offer a great chance for us to get to know each other better.  For those who are coming to the conference early or staying late, I’m planning a couple of local designer retail visits.  (Skingraft and some other LA designers.)  Do let me know in advance if you think you’d like to join us!

As always, anyone may contact me at any time with questions.  I’m always happy to hear from you and will help if I can!

In a recent communication with Gregg Most, Vice President/President Elect of ARLIS/NA, Gregg mentioned that our SIG was “one of the best!!”  (With two exclamation points!)  I’m not sure on which criteria we’re being judge, but with an evaluation like that, I frankly don’t care.  Moreover, I happen to agree with him.  😉

Lastly, I want to offer you all my most sincere thanks for being active, supportive members.  Your enthusiasm and passion for FTC studies and information resources has made our young SIG what it is today and I am very grateful!

Best wishes for a very happy and successful new year!

Dear Colleague,

This open access database contains scans of all issues published between November 1867 – December 1900, with very few gaps. Wouldn’t it be an asset to the libguide?
