Our dear colleague in Italy, Annamaria Poma Swank, PhD, has asked me to post a message from her to all of you. She would be very grateful if we would consider responding to her questions regarding vintage fashion and Pucci (see her message and questions, below.)
Thanks for including us in your work, Annamaria! Tanti saluti dagli Stati Uniti!
Sandra

“Vintage, revival, reuse” are some of the most common terms related to the tendency of “fashion industry [to] consider(s) the past more and more as stock of images and citations that recur in the present under new meanings” (Patricia Calefato, 2008 Symposium, Centre for Fashion Studies, Stockholm University)
Dear colleagues,
I am sorry I cannot be with you, but I am very busy with two very important projects (Pucci Exhibition, 2014; and Gio Ponti Exhibition, 2015 at the Georgia Art Museum in Athens).
I would like some help from all of you. I have a list of questions I like to submit to the group in relation to the phenomenon of Vintage, phenomenon that is related, in this case, to the revival of Pucci fashion, accessories, etc. Of course, the citation from Dr. Celefato (professor at the University of Bari, Italy, Department of “Lingue e tradizioni culturali europee” ) relates to the phenomenon in a wider spectrum, with references to literary criticism, fashion industry developments, semantic of languages, anthropological and philosophical analysis, and so forth, within the economic and social history of our society. Don’t be scared…. I do not want open a debate that would need a full conference!!!! I need your personal ideas and feedback related to what I call myself the “nostalgia of the past” that in these past 10 years has caused the revisitation of fashion of the past and great interest by Museums to implement their Costume Departments, offering exhibition of single designer or collective review.
I want to thank Sandra who accepted to help me in this endeavor. I wish to all of you good work ….
Grazie and have fun!!!!
